Summer Reading Assignments for Rising 7th Graders

Deerfield Beach Middle School

Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program

In addition to the two books you must read from the Sunshine State Reading list, you will need to pace yourself accordingly in order to read the novel listed below, record all reading in the reading log, and complete the chart.  You will take an Accelerated Reading Test for each of the three novels when school resumes.

The Giver Lois Lowry

1. You will need one 70 - 100 page spiral notebook or Composition book (Marble or Mead) to use as your Reading Log.  This notebook will be used during the summer and throughout the 7th grade school year.

o            Leave the first page blank

o            All entries MUST be in Blue or Black ink.

o            Record several entries on a page and write on the back of a page.

o            Starting on the second page, format the reading log in the following manner:

Title _______________________________                                                 Date ______________

Author ________________________________                                   Pg’s Read _____________

Reaction and Summary (3 sentences)
